Google goggles, Noogle Noggles the mind it boggles!

Google Goggles mobile app allows you to search Google simply by taking a picture! No typing needed!

It’s amazingly impressive stuff and is bound to impress your friends and family (if they haven’t strangled you to death already for going on about your iphone all the time) and as Appertunity discovered its surprisingly accurate despite this technology being in its infancy.

Google Goggles is part of googles iphone app (free here) although its only supported on iphone 3GS and iphone 4 running iOS4 (latest iphone software) but don’t despair as you can get it as a stand alone app called Noogle noggles which will work on iphone 3G (see below*)

After my post at Appertunity a few weeks ago regarding image recognition apps I neglected to mention Google goggles although this amazing app hadn’t hit the iphone at the time of posting so I hope you’ll forgive this oversight.

So whats the fuss about?

Google Goggles processes pictures taken with your iphone recognizing famous landmarks artwork etc and gives you links to information such as wikepedia or googles book search etc.

Not only that but the app recognizes the text from within the pictures you take so book titles, CD covers and even wine bottle labels are all fair game for this type of search and although facial recognition isn’t quite there yet Im sure it wont be long!

I would say that this is a must have app for any iphone user although currently its still much of a novelty but its a lot more accurate than some of its rivals discussed at Appertunity HERE and its free.

Although Google goggles is an app within Googles iphone app developers have been quick to utilize Googles gogggles platform and develop their own apps around this.

Case in point is Noogle Noggles which is a stand alone app.

So if you want your google goggles as a separate app or you dont have iphone 4 or 3GS (as I did) rather than having to log into Goggles own app (which has a variety of other functions) you can get Noogle Noggles free HERE
