If your interested in happiness (yours and others) and want to know where in the UK people are happiest and what they are happiest doing (whilst also monitoring your own happiness) plus help contribute to valuable research mappiness iphone app is for you!
Mappiness maps happiness across space in the UK and is a free app for your iPhone which is part of a research project at the London School of Economics.
The app simply beeps (actually is a pleasant ‘ting’) once (or more depending on how you set the app) a day to ask how you’re feeling, and a few basic facts such as type of people you’re with, where you are, what you’re doing (if you’re outdoors, you can also take a photo to upload to the project)! You can also open the app and report on your feelings and situation, unprompted, as often as you like.
There’s no typing just choose from a list of preset options.
The data is sent back anonymously and securely along with your approximate location and even a noise-level measure.
Statistical methods are used to the combined responses from everyone taking part to create a map of happiness (mappiness!)
If you’re curious to see what the designers of mappiness find visit http://www.mappiness.org.uk/ as results will be posted there.
mappiness was created by George MacKerronand Susana Mourato of the Department of Geography & Environment and the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
