Apple admit iphone fault but claim its not signal strength issue

Apple admitted on Friday that there has been an issue with the reception on the new iphone 4

However a spokesperson for Apple stated that the problem is actually caused by the reception display (and number of bars showing) rather than an actual reduction in signal.

Apple will be offering a software fix in the next few weeks.

Apple have said:

“For the vast majority of users who have not been troubled by this issue, this software update will only make your bars more accurate. For those who have had concerns, we apologize for any anxiety we may have caused.”

Apple says that it was “stunned” to find that “the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength”.

This is good news for iphone fans and seems like another Apple storm in a tea cup - Steve jobs even emailed one iphone fan saying:

“you are getting all worked up over a few days of rumors. Calm down”

I personally think people have a right to ‘get worked up’ given that apple got it wrong and the cost of the device!
