The UK Metro reported yesterday that the new iPhone has become the most successful product to be launched in Apple’s history but there were (once again, what a surprise) supply issues with this latest apple product!
Metro newspaper said:
“In the first three days since it went on sale in five countries including Britain, more than 1.7million of the smart-phones were sold.
But many technology fans were left disappointed as the hugely anticipated iPhone 4 sold out in the flagship Apple store in London’s Regent Street and many shops in the US. And some people who have managed to get their hands on the phone have complained about poor reception if they hold it in a certain way.
Apple has blamed supply problems on 600,000 phones being pre-ordered although it was reported just 16,000 units were sent to Britain for the launch.
Chief executive Steve Jobs hailed the iPhone’s success but added: ‘Even so, we apologise to those customers who were tumed away because we did not have enough supply.’
I find it interesting that Apple NEVER seem to get supplies of their latest products right!
A multi million dollar company that can afford to employ the very best market analysts getting it wrong over & over every time a product is launched is in my eyes not actually getting it wrong I suspect they are doing something else!
Even if Apple supply too many to a particular market they will be sold eventually!
I personally suspect that Apple are playing a very shrewd game. Media reports like the one above from the metro immediately create bigger stories where there are supply issues especially when devoted fans camp outside flagship stores
This means free advertising in the national and even regional press. Advertising that shows the product is hugely popular!
Advertising which shouts WHY DON’T YOU HAVE THE LATEST IPHONE/IPOD/IPAD RIGHT NOW YOU SAD LOOSER! QUICK! GO OUT AND BUY ONE EVERYONE ELSE IS!
…but I could be wrong? (Although others have had the same idea in the past such as this BBC article from 2008) Let Appertunity know your opinion with a comment!
