As you are no doubt already aware the iphone 4 has now been unleashed on the world! Along with the usual queues there were some unhappy customers!
Some complained that if the latest iPhone is held in such a way that your hand covers the black strip at the bottom-left of the device, you loose reception! The worst affected are the left handed but Steve Jobs played down the issue.
I agree with NervousPilotGames who comented on awigington’s speed test youtube video saying
…apple are just becoming big and bloated. Apple ho much? Don’t get me wrong I love my 3GS, I love my MacPro, but i’m not going to forgive them for their mistakes… that will only lead to more mistakes.
Don’t blindly defend large corporations, they won’t thank you for it. The only way to keep their quality control high is by keeping pressure on them.
Here’s what Apple had to say on the issue:
“Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your Phone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.”
In this youtube video awigington gives the iphone a speed test, with hands on and hands free.
“it won’t even run the test when I am holding the phone… once I let go, it makes a connection and runs the test. Hold it a second time, and the upload test will not start.”
