The Ipads much larger screen and touch pad controls lend themselves well to the development of children’s apps!
This has led to a proliferation of children’s games puzzles and toys for the ipad thus I was asked to review one such app recently ‘My Numbers’ and thought this would be a good opportunity to discuss children’s ipad apps in general so let us know your thoughts with a comment after you’ve read this post…
My Numbers is a fun children’s app for children still learning to count and it is reminiscent of children’s Fisher Price toys. Its a simple but colorful way to help teach your children with basic numbers.
My Numbers will help your preschool kid master numbers from 1-10 using objects in an innovative and engaging setting. The app is not only visually appealing, but combines fun sounds and voiceovers to appeal to your child’s developing auditory center. Big buttons make it easy for your child to navigate on the screen, and a color swatch supplies endless fun mixing and matching colors.
My Numbers is guaranteed to kindle the learning process and make a difference to your kid’s learning experience as well. So, don’t be surprised if your child comes back to play the app many times over.

Children’s apps need to do more!
The success of children’s toys has more to do with parents than children and this applies as much if not more to ipad apps for kids. How many parents are likley to be leaving their $700 ipad unsupervised with a sticky fingered clumsy toddler for more than a few minutes?
More screens & options, noises, interesting interactions (making full use of accelerometer and ther ipad features) and even apps for the youngest of children will be used again & again.
Ipad app pricing means developers loose out?
I have to say that I’m still confused by the idea that apps for the ipad are more expensive than the basic $1 (59p) market that the iphone and ipod touch established.
I’ve yet to hear a valid argument for this as the developers are selling software which has a very small initial investment and which can be endlessly updated and customized.
I am more than sure that this business model wont work very well for the more basic apps. As the ipad app market matures there wil be much more competition forcing such apps to reduce their prices (for example My Numbers was $4.99 now $2.99)
NEWSFLASH! The price for My Numbers has dropped to 99c (59p). Grab this bargain as i dont know how long the app will remain at this price and it’s a fantastic way to interact with your kids with a bit of quality time if your an ipad owning parent!

Summary
Despite my reservations I’m hoping that apps such as My Numbers will be down loaded as they can be of real value and are fun for both parents and children.
