Sync up to 2G files free to your iPhone!

There are now a variety of iphone apps that allow you to back up, sync & access files between computers & your mobile device such as the iphone via their iphone apps but which service to choose?

This depends on whether you will just be using the free service many of these providers allow (usually about 2G worth of files) or whether you want to back up ALL your documents, photos, MP3s etc and syncing  them across devices?

How much data storage do I need?

First ask yourself first will 2G of files be enough for me? For example perhaps you just want to backup and access a few word docs, your latest photos and a few of your favourite MP3 tracks? In this case you can opt for any of the services and concentrate on easy of use of the service and how easy the iphone app is to use. Fortunately each service allows you to sign up and ‘try before you buy’ with a 2G account so you can try each service to see which suits your personal tastes.

What if I want more storage?

If you decide that 2G worth of files is too little and you want to back up aand sync all your files other considerations come into play. How much stuff do you actually want to save and sync?

Here I am going to concentrate on Dropbox as this is a personal favorite although there are other applications that you may prefer. Most of these services allow you tocreate a free account and give you free up to 2G of space for your files. I have listed some other alternatives to drop box at the end of this article and will review these in a future article.

Dropbox & iphone…

The Dropbox iphone app allows you to sync files such as word documents, photos or MP3 files so that they’ll be instantly available on your iphone! Have a quick think about what that could mean for you! You will need a free Dropbox account which you can get here at Dropbox then when viewing a file on your iphone just view the file and tap the star icon.

Marking a file as a favorite adds the file to the app’s Favorites tab for easy access (like a bookmark) this then Syncs the file to your iPhone or iPod Touch for offline viewing!

You can sync up to 2GB of your favorite files on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Not only that but ANY of your computers that you’ve installed Dropbox on will also get updated -instantly and automatically! It’s as if you saved the document to all of your computers giving you the freedom to work on any of your computers or your phone and always have the files you need.

Other advantages to Dropbox…

Travel back in time…

Every time you save a file in Dropbox, Dropbox syncs it to their secure servers. Dropbox keeps a history of every change you make so that you can undo any mistakes and even undelete files. By default, they keep 30 days worth of history for all your files.

Sharing…

You can easily share entire folders or photo albums with Dropbox. Simply put the folders you want to share in your Dropbox, and invite people to them. You can also send people links to specific files within your Dropbox.

Never loose a file….

Any file you put into your Dropbox folder is automatically backed up so even if your computer has a melt-down, your files are safe on Dropbox and can be restored at any time.

Dropbox replaces…

• Emailing file attachments to yourself and other people
• Using USB drives to move files between computers
• Renaming files to keep a history of previous versions
• Complicated backup software and hardware

Alternatives to Dropbox…

As well as drop box other sync services have iphone apps that allow you to acces your files and again their apps are free.
