I came across this heartwarming article in the Metro today showing how technology can enhance the lives of those with disabilities…
Metro Tuesday 11th May 2010 (Full article)
A proud father has given his
disabled daughter a ‘voice’ for the
first time, alter building an iPhone
app for her.Martin Brooks, 42,
created the app after he became
frustrated at not being able to
understand five-year-old Mia, who
has cerebral palsy. She can only
communicate by ‘pointing’
towards objects with her eyes.Dubbed the ‘iComm’, the new app
displays four images at a time on
the iPhone screen which Mia can
point at using eye movements to
show what she wants to do.Mr Brooks, from St Albans,
Hertfordshire, said:
‘Now I can ask her what she has
been doing and she can reply.
‘It’s allowed Mia to become much
more sociable’
…and here are father and daughter using the app
